Meat is always on lower end of quality.
But yesterday, it caught me bad enough to drop this review. I bought "fresh" lean ground beef wrapped the same day, i used it immediately and was already smelling like ground beef that spent DAYS in the fridge. You know the kind of meat you ask a second opinion to your wife when you pull it out of the fridge as if you should cook it or throw it

I usually have NO problem at this store, as I am a insta cart shopper. Today we met Wendy... She was very rude, took the paper bags I collected, usually insta cart shoppers use the paper bags. From my hand and said " You don't use these! These are for deliveries. " I replied. "I am delivering, I am insta carting." She repliesback" Well these still aren't the right ones!" I was so disgusted, I left the self check out cause I didn't want to even speak to this lady and went to a regular checkout. Was served by a really nice lady. I am a Wendy! We are really nice people!

I'm not sure what's going on with the veg, but the last 4 packs of salad over the last couple of months have been slimy inside, even though they are in date, and when I was in there last week, the 'baking potatoes' look like they were last season. I'm a farmer's boy and my family would never send veg in that condition to the stores. For the ridiculous prices they charge, they should be better.

Failed transaction and still charged....
I visit Comox pretty often and have many friends there.
I was in Comox this summer 2024 and I attended the independent Grocer on July 30th, 2024. I asked to have $100.00 cashback provided with my purchase.
My debit card was declined. I decided to pay with my credit card for my purchase and did not receive any cash back.
Upon looking at my bank statement I discovered that I had been charged for the $100.00 cashback and also the purchase I made.
Since I noticed the money was taken from my account I have sent several emails and made phone calls to the cash register manager and the owner of Independent Grocer.
It is a long and complicated process. It's been over six weeks now and they have not reimbursed me.
The service they gave to me, as a customer was unprofessional. I definitely will not return to this store and do not recommend Hugh's your Independent Grocer Comox.

Prices are higher than expected on some of their fresh food items and the quality is not that great. The chicken balls were tough and chewy and it costs more than buying it already warm at a local restaurant. We will certainly be more careful purchasing from here again.
