Fireside yin with Shelley is a special treat. If you are looking to have an authentic yoga and spiritual experience, this is the studio and class for you.
The energy is so warm and welcoming at The Pines House. I found it particularly interesting that the gathering space is on the other side of the classroom from the entrance, increasing the degree of connection with classmates and the space itself. The wood oven and candles brought a very pleasant degree of natural light into the room for a calming practice.
As a yin teacher myself, I am slightly picky about the classes I choose to attend. I am careful to select teachers who respect the authenticity of the practice of yoga, in a culture that is very guilty of its appropriation. In my opinion, Shelley did an excellent job at honouring yoga as a sacred practice.
She has also recently released a collection of healing mists which were used in the class and were very pleasant.
Overall, I am very happy with this studio and will certainly be back during my time in Comox.

“An Affordable, Accessible and Awe Inspiring place to build skills in Wellness, Mental Health and Physical Fitness in a safe and inclusive space.”
Dear Shelley and The Pines Team,
I can’t thank everyone enough for allowing such a special space to exist and to deepen my experience in my body, yoga practice and overall wellness. The Pines is so much more than just a Yoga studio, it’s a Sangha and safe space to develop friendships, personal growth and overall wellness in union with mind, body and soul.
One of the most affordable and inclusive studios I’ve been to and a place to push boundaries or develop new skills. Space is on the tighter side and there is a fireplace that can keep things spicy but as someone who is body conscious it forces you to focus on the practice and to break some personal space or proprioception boundaries. People in classes are kind, welcoming and warm. Instructors bring diverse skill sets and are seasoned not only in the asana and technical aspects of posture but in yoga philosophy, group dynamics, trauma sensitivity and much more.
I went on a journey this winter of self development and exploration that couldn’t have been possible without the Accessibility of The Pines as I was on a fixed income. I’ve practised Yoga as a form of vigorous exercise and flexibility training but only recently have discovered the whole other side of Yoga and the years of culture, philosophy, training and experimentation behind it. Being able to supplement my sabbatical with yoga and The Pines wellness practices alongside therapy and nature here in the beautiful unceded territory of the Komok’s FN has been extremely transformational in my life.
I really want to give credit to teachers like Lisa who bring a warmth and humour into classes while getting a sweat on. My first class with Lisa I wondered what the heck I was doing there and it swiftly became one of my favourites, there is a special sweetness to the way you teach. Nina who’s methodical and technical but has the teaching skills to help you achieve poses and do it safely and inclusively, I am so thankful for witnessing your power. Amy’s empowerment class for pushing physical and mental limits with longer holding times alongside a real message of self compassion, empowerment and conscious living - I found this to be one of the most powerful classes for me in all ways, Thank you Amy.
The sound baths and other classes aren’t something I’d normally do but with the price of a monthly pass being in the top 3 most affordable options in the Comox valley how can you say no, go do something new, meet new people - discover new teas and techniques to build yourself into the person you know you deserve to be. Go experience something exciting, have some buy in to the classes if you've never done it, get in shape in all ways and you just might find something you didn't know was there before.
Thanks to Shelley for being an open and honest owner, host and business owner who helps bring wellness, fitness and mindfulness to an easily accessible space in a community where we desperately need it.
Namaste, and thank you for all of everyone's hard work and truth given in every class.

Incredible from start to finish. I reached out to Shelley inquiring about the idea of hosting a non-traditional bachelorette party the day before my wedding. She was so receptive and enthusiastic right from the start, and put in an exceptional amount of work to make my vision a reality. We were warmly welcomed into her home/studio space and offered tea by the wood burning fireplace to cozy in. Our group was then invited to experience a beautiful flow of offerings including a burning ceremony, blessing circle, yoga class, and sound bath with light massage and essential oils. Our group consisted of ladies aged 8 to 40 with varying levels of yoga experience. The facilitator made a notable effort to ensure everyone felt completely comfortable during each experience we shared.
We were then welcomed to the eating area with champagne, and were seated around a stunning floor table. The vegetarian charcuterie spread was unbelievable and could have been a meal in itself, but Shelley went over and above by preparing us each Buddha Bowls as a main course, topped off with a homemade berry crumble for desert. Needless to say, we all left The Pines Yoga & Wellness House with happily full tummies feeling united as a group, revived as individuals, and ready for the big celebration the following day.

I am new to the Pines Yoga Studio, but do feel that way at all! The amazing authentic warm friendliness of instructors, owner and yogis is just what I needed. The classes range and all levels of yogis fit in because the instructors make sure of this. I have found a much needed oasis in Comox! Thanks so much Shelly, for this life enhancing gift🙏
